The positive result of the animal therapy! Completely mute girl’s first words were – “I love you, Shock”
The poor donkey, Shock was found in a farm in Ireland. The animal’s neck was so tightly tied by a rope that the skin was injured and started to bleed.
It is terrible to imagine how painful it was for the poor donkey. His owner thinking that ordinary bleach could “cure” the injured skin of the animal “treated” the wound with it twice.
The animal was taken to a veterinarian in critical condition and then to a shelter in Birmingham.
Shock was not brought to an ordinary animal shelter. This is a shelter where animals “therapists” live. Children with developmental delays or with psychological problems are brought to therapy with animals. This method is quite effective and shows pretty good results.
So Shock met a two-year-old girl named Amber. The girl’s ligaments were damaged during the surgical procedure she had to undergo at birth. Besides this, she had another terrible diagnosis as well – cerebral palsy. She could hardly move and couldn’t utter a sound.
Amber’s parents were advised to take the girl to animal therapies. She fell in love with Shock at first sight. She became more active when she was petting Shock and she had to walk with him when he wanted to walk. The donkey helped Amber to cope with the consequences of paralysis.
Gradually the girl became more and more active and cheerful. She even wanted to learn how to ride a donkey, which she did well.
She was 3 when she had vocal cord surgery, but she still could not speak.
Few months passed. The girl continued to come to Shock. And then one day, leaving therapy, she turned around and said loudly, “I love you, Shock!” These words became her first words! Parents could not hold back tears of happiness.
Now Amber is already a schoolgirl. She does well in school and doesn’t forget about her old friend, Shock!
