The cat looked so strange that no one could understand what breed he was
A cat named Pepe, along with his two sisters, wandered the streets of Denton, Texas for some time, until two girls picked them up and brought them to a shelter. At first it seemed that the cats were sick with something, they had sparse hair of different lengths and growing unevenly. But then it was decided that these were mestizos of a sphinx and an ordinary cat.
Pepe was still very young, he was barely a year old. He was covered in fleas and heavily soiled with mud, but they were treated and washed at the shelter. And then he spent three whole months here, because no one wanted to adopt this unsociable cat. His two sisters were taken away quickly, they were very sociable and affectionate, although they looked strange as well.
But then Shea Daspin and Joshua Tucker showed up and they immediately fell in love with Pepe.
“Pepe looks so unusual, like he fell from the moon. In general, he is just like us,” Shea laughs.
When the two Pepe sisters were taken away, he became even more reclusive and sat huddled in the far end of the cage. People who came to pick up cats for themselves often simply did not notice him.
Shea and Joshua flew here from New York to adopt Pepe. They have two more Sphynx cats at home. Another cat used to live with them, but she recently passed away and the couple was looking for a new companion.
“We were going through the lists of cats from shelters day after day, looking for someone who would be perfect for us. And suddenly we saw a photo of Pepe. He looked like a hodgepodge of parts of cats of different breeds. Then we read that he gets along well with other cats and realized that this is most likely our candidate,” the couple said.
The very next day, Shea and Joshua flew to Texas.
Pepe had a great flight to New York and quickly settled into his new home. According to Shea, he instantly changed and from the scared cat he was in the shelter, he became a bright and flourishing guy.
“I have not seen cats that were as sweet and trusting as Pepe. He became very attached to us,” Shea said.
With one of his new girlfriends named Iggy, Pepe has established a particularly close relationship and now they sleep next to each other. Shea and Joshua also decided to find out what kind of mix of breeds is in Pepe and decided that most likely it is a mix with a Don Sphynx or Peterbald.
Maybe he’s just a mixture of different breeds of sphinxes and ordinary cats. Or maybe it’s just a genetic mutation. They have not seen such cats before, so they could not come to a final conclusion.
