This retriever named Augie (August) is considered the oldest representative of its breed. She is twenty years old and lives in Tennessee with her owners. Steve and Jennifer took her in when she was 14 years old, which is 78 human years.

Dogs of this breed usually live 10-12 years. Golden Retrievers often get cancer and soon die.

“We are often asked about the secret to Augie’s longevity. We do not know how or what he ate before we took him, but the secret to his good health is his good genetic inheritance,” said Steve.

Recently, the retriever has had some minor health problems – he had second-degree inflammation of the kidney. But as a result of treatment and regular examination by the veterinarian, the condition has stabilized and does not worsen (the fourth stage is the most serious).

August is quite active despite his old age. He likes jumping, playing with a ball and watching TV with his family.

By the way August may become the 19^th oldest dog in the world recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
