Homeless dog Luna that was in the care of the local department of social services, appeared under the threat of euthanasia. She would have been euthanized if Lucy Holmes, the head of animal rescue in North Yorkshire, England, had not known about this dog.

After Lucy adopted a 12 month old shepherd, she discovered that something was happening to the dog. The veterinarian confirmed Lucy’s guesses – the dog was pregnant and had to give birth from day to day.

“I was very worried because I didn’t know what the puppies would need at the time of birth,” Lucy told The Dodo.

A week later, Luna went into labor, Lucy and her family were worried and did not sleep the whole night in anticipation of good news. They wondered how many puppies Luna would give birth to – 4, 5 or maybe 6?

As a young mother, Luna gave birth to as many as 10 puppies!

“Our family was delighted with the birth of these magnificent creatures. We will look after the puppies for a while. Once they are old enough, they will all be adopted through Lucie’s Animal Rescue. Luna will also find a permanent home,” said Lucy.

In the meantime, the family enjoys the cuteness of a mom and her puppies!
